Today, we present the new book of Roberto Bonanomi, psychologist and trainer HURACT.

A lot of people find it difficult to organize their own activities in a world in which everything is considered urgent.

Often people are so saturated with day-to-day requirements that they forgot or delay about the most important projects.

When you think you’ve reserved a moment for yourself and your thoughts (or simply to rest), you are suddenly interrupted by phone calls, urgent mails or any other mean that puts you back in a “work” mindset.

We constantly live in the chaos, acting in a prevalently reactive mode, moving from an interruption to the other.

This chaos is persistent in both our personal lives and in our business ones. The latter ends up being a constant part of the first one: for a business perspective, all seems urgent and needs to be done “yesterday” or “ASAP”.

Unfortunately, the wrong use of technology (e-mail, chat, sms etc.) and of socializing environments (open space) has made communication in organizations even more chaotic and has started invading even personal spaces.

And this is not just an hypothesis.

According to a McKinsey Global Institute research, quoted in the New York Times, managers check their e-mails 74 times a day, occupying 28% of their whole day with this task.

Another research, by Jabra, has revealed a tangible paradox: companies, on one hand, try to create productive environments, while on the other hand, at the same time, underestimate the presence of distractions in the same working environments. For example, half of the people interviewed (46%) condemn open space as they believe background noise is a major cause for distraction, followed by colleagues (46%) and too many e-mails to be read (28%).

For these reasons businesses have tried to safeguard both the productivity of their employees and their own personal lives.

Unluckily, aside of laudable intentions, these actions don’t reflect a universally shared rational logic. Sometimes, these actions appear to be contradictory and are not considering the increasing internationalization of businesses.

In the book, in order to protect the personal level, it is suggested to adopt thoroughly described methodologies and IT capabilities in order to plan and manage in an effective way your own activities, projects and dreams.

On a organizational level, instead, is proposed a new revolutionary way (The TIME ETIQUETTE) to manage personal interactions through a mix of rational rules on the use of time and communication channels.

The two approaches can be used independently but get advantages one of another when integrated

Different corporations are adopting with success this approach and are extending it to all their branches. At the same time, many people that have used these approaches on a personal level have started sharing them with their workplaces. Generally, once communicated, organizations tend to warmly welcome these proposals as they introduce incredible benefits without any cost.

I hope this book can bring you the same benefits, both on an organizational and personal level.
